摘要： Smart cities have rapidly developed in the context of the integration of new digital technologies such as big data, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, blockchains, and virtual reality. These cities have conducted practical innovations and typical cases in many sectors, such as in government, transportation, environmental protection, energy, medical care, and logistics, and have produced many social, economic, and ecological benefits. However, there are still some problems that continue to hinder the construction of smart cities. This paper examines such problems in depth and proposes some relevant countermeasures and suggestions.

Innovation, practical benefits and prospects for the future development of automatic milking systems

摘要： Automatic milking systems (AMS) were designed to replace existing, labor-intensive machine milking and are an area of rapid development in modern dairy farming. The popularity of AMS lies in the convenience of management, decreasing workloads and the consistency of milking compared with non-automated machine milking. Nevertheless, this innovation has not been reviewed comprehensively and the practical benefits of AMS are still unclear. This review gives a brief overview of the historical development of milking machines and the workflow process of state-of-the-art AMS. In addition, a series of comparisons between AMS and current milking machines are made with respect to labor savings, quality parameters, udder health, herd behavior and mastitis detection and are summarized on the basis of relevant studies to show the benefits of the technological changes achieved by AMS. Finally, this review addresses several deficiencies in the technology and procedures of current AMS that need to be improved and also assesses recent advances in milking techniques with a particular focus on their potential for application in AMS.

P2P energy trading via public power networks: Practical challenges, emerging solutions, and the way forward

摘要： Peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading is an emerging energy supply paradigm where customers with distributed energy resources (DERs) are allowed to directly trade and share electricity with each other. P2P energy trading can facilitate local power and energy balance, thus being a potential way to manage the rapidly increasing number of DERs in net zero transition. It is of great importance to explore P2P energy trading via public power networks, to which most DERs are connected. Despite the extensive research on P2P energy trading, there has been little large-scale commercial deployment in practice across the world. In this paper, the practical challenges of conducting P2P energy trading via public power networks are identified and presented, based on the analysis of a practical Local Virtual Private Networks (LVPNs) case in North Wales, UK. The ongoing efforts and emerging solutions to tackling the challenges are then summarized and critically reviewed. Finally, the way forward for facilitating P2P energy trading via public power networks is proposed.

A reliable and practical reference objective for the deviation diagnosis of energy system parameters

摘要： The core objective to optimize a complex energy system is to set the reference target to guide the parameter adjustment of system operation. In this paper, a new case-based approach is proposed based on an online performance assessment program and its long-term operation data for a large power unit. The online model of a coal-fired power unit’s performance assessment is demonstrated, and the distribution pattern of the performance index is revealed by statistical analysis of the abundant data. The fundamental issues (representation of the similarity of two thermal processes, similarity measure, etc.) are tackled. The key sections and key parameters for the completion of similarity determination are proposed, which are essential to realize a case-based strategy. A full-scope simulator of power unit is used to test the availability of the method. The advantage of the case-based approach is the integrality of information over other methods.

Environmental pollution and DNA methylation: carcinogenesis, clinical significance, and practical applications

摘要：

Environmental pollution is one of the main causes of human cancer. Exposures to environmental carcinogens result in genetic and epigenetic alterations which induce cell transformation. Epigenetic changes caused by environmental pollution play important roles in the development and progression of environmental pollution-related cancers. Studies on DNA methylation are among the earliest and most conducted epigenetic research linked to cancer. In this review, the roles of DNA methylation in carcinogenesis and their significance in clinical medicine were summarized, and the effects of environmental pollutants, particularly air pollutants, on DNA methylation were introduced. Furthermore, prospective applications of DNA methylation to environmental pollution detection and cancer prevention were discussed.

A practical multi-lane factor model of bridges based on multi-truck presence considering lane load disparities

摘要： Many bridge design specifications consider multi-lane factors (MLFs) a critical component of the traffic load model. Measured multi-lane traffic data generally exhibit significant lane disparities in traffic loads over multiple lanes. However, these disparities are not considered in current specifications. To address this drawback, a multi-coefficient MLF model was developed based on an improved probabilistic statistical approach that considers the presence of multiple trucks. The proposed MLF model and approach were calibrated and demonstrated through an example site. The model sensitivity analysis demonstrated the significant influence of lane disparity of truck traffic volume and truck weight distribution on the MLF. Using the proposed approach, the experimental site study yielded MLFs comparable with those directly calculated using traffic load effects. The exclusion of overloaded trucks caused the proposed approach, existing design specifications, and conventional approach of ignoring lane load disparity to generate comparable MLFs, while the MLFs based on the proposed approach were the most comprehensive. The inclusion of overloaded trucks caused the conventional approach and design specifications to overestimate the MLFs significantly. Finally, the benefits of the research results to bridge practitioners were discussed.

Confined masonry as practical seismic construction alternative–the experience from the 2014 Cephalonia

During August 1953 three strong earthquakes of magnitude ranging from 6.3 to 7.2 shook the Ionian Island of Cephalonia (Kefalonia), Greece, and destroyed almost the entire building stock of the Island which consisted primarily of traditional unreinforced masonry (URM) houses. The authorities went on to restructuring of the building stock, using a structural system that is most like what is known today as confined masonry. They designed about 14 types of one- to two-storey buildings providing the engineers with detailed construction plans. These buildings are known as “Arogi” buildings (Arogi in Greek meaning Aid). On the 24th of January and 3rd of February 2014, two earthquakes of magnitude 6.1 and 6.0 struck the island, causing significant soil damages, developing excessively high ground accelerations. Surprisingly, no damage was reported in the “Arogi” buildings. The seismic behavior of the buildings is examined by FEM linear analysis and it is compared to that of URM structures. Computed results illustrate that the displacements of identical URM buildings would be about twice the magnitudes observed in the corresponding “Arogi” ones, with the implication that the earthquake sequence of 2014 would have caused critical damage should the type of structure be of the URM type. Furthermore, it is illustrated that this low cost alternative method of construction is a very effective means of producing earthquake resilient structures, whereas further reduction of seismic displacement may be achieved in the order of 50% with commensurate effects on damage potential, when reinforced slabs are used to replace the timber roofs.

Firm innovation system: Paths for enhancing corporate indigenous innovation capability

摘要： To obtain a sustainable competitive advantage and achieve global innovation leadership, firms in China and other emerging economies must develop strong indigenous innovation capabilities through the coevolution of strategy, organization, resources, and culture. Drawing on current innovation management theories and practices, this study proposes four systematic paths for improving firm innovation systems (FISs), namely, the R&D-based internal collaborative FIS, the strategic vision-driven FIS, the open and user-driven FIS, and the holistic ecosystem-driven FIS. This study contributes to the systematic approach for enhancing corporate indigenous innovation capability based on FISs. Moreover, this study provides theoretical and practical insights for China as well as other developing countries to cultivate world-class enterprises and build an innovative nation.

摘要：

模糊灰色物元空间（FHW）是针对宏观复杂大系统中的决策、预测问题进行决策支持的理论方法。它以Delphi法和模糊综合评判为基础，融合了BS和K.J法的优点，综合了模糊数学、灰色系统、物元分析与可拓学等多种理论，以此理论为基础的决策支持系统已经在实际应用中取得了大量的成果。经过近20年的发展，这套理论方法在综合人工智能、复杂系统、集合论等其他学科的基础上，自身也有了长足的发展与进步。简要介绍了模糊、灰色、物元空间理论的理论体系、实际应用情况和近年来的发展和展望。

chaotic hybrid differential evolution for the short-term hydrothermal scheduling problem considering practical

摘要： Short-term hydrothermal scheduling (STHTS) is a non-linear and complex optimization problem with a set of operational hydraulic and thermal constraints. Earlier, this problem has been addressed by several classical techniques; however, due to limitations such as non-linearity and non-convexity in cost curves, artificial intelligence tools based techniques are being used to solve the STHTS problem. In this paper an improved chaotic hybrid differential evolution (ICHDE) algorithm is proposed to find an optimal solution to this problem taking into account practical constraints. A self-adjusted parameter setting is obtained in differential evolution (DE) with the application of chaos theory, and a chaotic hybridized local search mechanism is embedded in DE to effectively prevent it from premature convergence. Furthermore, heuristic constraint handling techniques without any penalty factor setting are adopted to handle the complex hydraulic and thermal constraints. The superiority and effectiveness of the developed methodology are evaluated by its application in two illustrated hydrothermal test systems taken from the literature. The transmission line losses, prohibited discharge zones of hydel plants, and ramp rate limits of thermal plants are also taken into account. The simulation results reveal that the proposed technique is competent to produce an encouraging solution as compared with other recently established evolutionary approaches.

摘要： Technical innovation is the core for enterprise competence and sustaining. Technical innovation strategy is the policy which the enterprise carries out for technology innovation in a long term. The paper took the practice of the technology innovation strategy in PetroChina Chang- qing Oilfield Company as a case study, and illustrated the significance, function and features of the self-developed technology innovation, cooperation development technology innovation and introduction-innovation based on the strategy structure of the energy enterprises. The suggestions for technology innovation strategy structure for large energy enterprise were proposed in the paper.
